FAQ's

This depends on which therapist you’re wanting to see. We have several associate-level therapists on staff, which means that they’re licensed clinicians, but are still under supervision while working toward full licensure in Texas. Associate-level therapists are not currently allowed to take insurance, so they are cash-pay only.

• Our clinicians that are self-pay only are Pamela, Amelia, Simone, Sarah, and Canitra.
• Two of our fully licensed clinicians (Katy & Steph) have chosen to take insurance through certain companies. Each provider is currently credentialed with different insurance companies/plans.

Sliding Scale Policy
Each therapist at The Wakeful State takes a maximum of 5 sliding scale (reduced rate) self-pay clients at a time. There is an official application for clients to fill out, and session rates are based on income. The process of being approved for a sliding scale rate is as follows: 

1. *Please note* that the sliding scale program is for self-pay clients only. Clients using insurance are not eligible
2. The client will fill out the application here: https://forms.gle/FSsPovKzBwJk3LT89
3. The owner of the practice will review the application
4. The client will receive notification of application status (approved or denied and reason why)
5. If the therapist has an open space for a sliding scale client, one will be awarded accordingly
6. If the therapist’s sliding scale spots are full, client will be placed on a waitlist for the next available spot
7. Depending on documented income, the appropriate sliding scale rate will be determined: 
   1. For fully licensed clinicians:
      1. Level 1 Charge – $50
      2. Level 2 Charge – $65
      3. Level 3 Charge – $80
      4. Level 4 Charge – $90
      5. Level 5 Charge – $100
      6. No Discount – $135
   2. For clinicians with associates licenses: 
      1. Level 1 Charge – $50
      2. Level 2 Charge – $55
      3. Level 3 Charge – $65
      4. Level 4 Charge – $75 
      5. Level 5 Charge – $80
         1. No Discount – $100

• Step One: contact us at admin@thewakefulstate.com or (469) 209-5766, and let us know that you’re interested in working with us.
• Step Two: someone from our team will reach out to you, and will ask what you’re wanting to work on in therapy, if you’re needing to use an insurance plan, and what your availability looks like. Once we have that information, we’ll be able to match you with the clinician that might be the best fit.
• Step Three: if desired/necessary, a free, 10-min consult will be set up with any clinicians that you’re interested in working with, to make sure you feel comfortable moving forward.
• Step Four: we will set you up with a secure, online client portal, which is where you will sign all necessary paperwork. This must be done prior to your first session.

• Your clinician will schedule your virtual session, and you’ll receive text/email reminders with the link for your session.
• The clinician will perform an assessment, comprised of questions about your history, why you’re seeking therapy, who your current treatment team is, current medications, and which symptoms you’re experiencing.
• You will have an opportunity to set specific goals for what you’re hoping to get out of the counseling process.
• Your clinician will set up your next appointment. 

• All sessions must be canceled no later than 24 hours in advance. 
• No call, no show: The full session rate that you normally pay will be automatically charged to the card on file if the therapist does not hear from you. 
• Therapists will log onto the session, and wait for your arrival for 15 minutes before logging off and considering the appointment a “no call, no show”.
• Each client gets one “freebie” of a missed session.

• Yes! We have a wonderful Masters-level student, Canitra, on staff that sees clients for $50 per session. 
• We also have a sliding scale policy for our other clinicians. Each clinician has room in their caseload for 3 sliding scale clients. Your rate per session is based on yearly income, and requires certain documentation to be approved. Please contact Katy at katy@thewakefulstate.com to inquire further about getting approved for a sliding scale spot, and to see if there is any current availability with any of our clinicians.
